Swiss Society of New York

July 2010

Dear Members and Friends of the Swiss Society of New York:

Already in the midst of summer, we are heavily engaged in planning exciting events for the fall and winter. It is my pleasure to update you with our fourth newsletter.

Since my last letter, we experienced a number of memorable events in 2010, which our Board hopes you enjoyed:
-  "Navigating a leading Global Financial Corporation through a Financial Crises" with keynote
speaker Walter Kielholz - a co-joint event with the Swiss American Chamber of Commerce
-  Private tour: Red Book & Mandala exhibition at the Rubin Museum of Art
-  The annual Swiss Ball with Guest of Honor Clown DIMITRI

Coming up this fall, there will be several special events.
-  We are excited about two September book launches, which we hope will inspire all those
interested in Swiss in the United States. The compelling book Gallatin: America's Swiss Founding
Father is written by Nicholas Dungan and published by NYU Press and the Swiss Conderation,
Department of Foreign Affairs. It brings to light Albert Gallatin's timeless contributions to the the
United States. Switzerland's Minister of Foreign Affairs Calmey Rey and Dr. John Sexton,
President of New York University will preside.
-  We are equally enthusiastic about our roll in the English translation of Westward, a profile of fifteen
Swiss-American women, written by Susann Bosshard-Kaelin. The book includes interviews with Dr.
Margot Ammann Durrer, Rosa Schupbach, Linda Geiser, and Margarit Mondavi Biever. In time for
the Centennial celebration of the Swiss Society in 1984, Margot and Linda became the first women
to serve on our Board. We applaud them!
-  In October we are also pleased to inform you that 21st Century Symphony Orchestra from
Luzern will appear in  their second annual Radio City Music Hall performance. Howard Shore's
Grammy® and Academy-Award® winning score to Lord of the Rings The Two Towers will be
performed live by over 300 musicians to Peter Jackson's epic. Buy your tickets early, directly
   from the RCMH box office.

For the winter months, we have planned the following.
-  December will see the return of Mummenschanz to the stages of New York. This is also a family-
oriented evening, which we hope you will enjoy during the Holiday season.
-  January 29, 2011 is the 250th Anniversary of Albert Gallatin's birthday. Join us for the Swiss Ball
2011 in his honor with guest speaker Dr. John Sexton, President of New York University. It will be
a fun-filled evening of dancing, fine food, entertainment, and a silent auction offering Switzerland's
best products and services. Support the Swiss Society Fellowship.
-  The Gallatin theme continues in February with the  Swiss Confederation's Gallatin250 Project
coming to New York. An informative roundtable panel discussion is scheduled with Swiss National
   Bank Chairman, Andreas Hildebrand.
-  And please, don't forget to make plans for the Holiday Party in December and Fondue Dinner in
   late winter.

Please check our website www.SwissSociety.com for dates and details for all the events.
